What are the Symptoms of Fibromyalgia?

Imagine that you wake up one morning feeling fine. You had a great, restful sleep and you feel like you could conquer the world. Within moments you spring out of bed only to have your wonderful morning cut short by an intense feeling of burning deep down inside your body. Chances are you forget about it and pass it off as only a temporary symptom. Maybe you stretched too much when you woke up or perhaps you unknowingly injured your hips or your back yesterday when you were at the gym.

However, as the day goes on, that burning sensation refuses to go away and instead becomes worse and worse until you have a chronic feeling that your joints are burning away. As traumatic as this situation sounds, this is what people with fibromyalgia experience each and every day of their lives.

Perhaps the best way to describe the characteristic symptom of fibromyalgia is with a simple three word definition – widespread chronic burning. While someone suffering with fibromyalgia will usually not feel any symptoms in the outer appendages of the body, the hips, back and legs are most usually affected by this disorder. In most cases, the symptoms of will begin slowly but will progress throughout the entire body eventually, meaning that you should seek treatment as soon as you start to feel as though you may have one or more of the common fibromyalgia symptoms.

Along with the chronic burning sensation, fibromyalgia may be accompanied by other symptoms such as chronic fatigue and various types of sleep problems including insomnia. Essentially, the fibromyalgia prevents most people from getting enough sleep due to the extraordinary pain which they are exposed to. All in all though, there are a variety of treatments, even in its more advanced stages, so do not be afraid to see your doctor if symptoms begin to flare up.
